A Lifelong Dedication to Service

Mr. Ved Bahadur Thapa (V.B. Thapa), son of the late Subedar Major Mitra Lal Thapa, has dedicated his life to the continuous upliftment of the community. A retired Technical Transport officer from the Medical Health and Family Welfare Department of Uttar Pradesh, his professional career was defined by his unwavering commitment to his peers. Serving as the unopposed State General Secretary and later as the State President of the State Employees Organization, he consistently championed the rights of his colleagues through active dialogue and steadfast determination.

Championing the Gorkha Identity

Beyond his professional duties, Mr. Thapa has been an invaluable pillar of the Bharatiya Gorkha Sewa Samaj since 1973. Rising through the ranks from Assistant Cultural Minister to State President, he has tirelessly fought for the rights and recognition of Indian Gorkhas. Notably, since 2002, he has spearheaded the critical movement to include the Gorkha community in the state's Other Backward Classes (OBC) list. Facing bureaucratic challenges, he firmly refuted inaccurate district population reports, ensuring that the true voice and presence of the Gorkhas were recognized at the highest levels of government.

A Legacy of Compassion and Action

Under his visionary leadership, the Samaj has flourished into an organization deeply embedded in social welfare. From organizing vital drinking water camps and community feasts, to leading grand cultural celebrations, his impact is profound. Furthermore, his compassionate direction ensures continuous support for those in distress—providing essential medical assistance, aiding separated families, and delivering immediate relief to victims of natural disasters, such as the 2015 Nepal earthquake.

Our History

Bhartiya Gorkha Seva Samaj was created to bring the community together — uniting Gorkhas across India on a shared platform of support, culture, and progress. What began in 1968 as Nepali Sewa Samaj in Lucknow has grown through temple establishment, women's committees, national affiliation, and a renewed identity in 2013.

We believe a connected community is a strong community. Our goal is to preserve our heritage while moving forward with confidence and opportunity.

Timeline: 1968 to today

  1. 1968

    Establishment of Nepali Sewa Samaj

    Nepali Sewa Samaj, Lucknow was formed, uniting the community with its first executive committee to promote cultural preservation and progress.

  2. 1976

    Establishment of Durga Temple

    Shri Shri Sarva Janani Durga Temple was grandly established in Telibagh, Lucknow, serving as a hub for daily prayers, bhajan-kirtan, and community bonding.

  3. 1987

    Merger & Name Change

    All regional organizations unanimously merged into a single entity, appending 'Bharatiya' to become the Bharatiya Nepali Sewa Samaj, U.P., Lucknow.

  4. 1990

    Kajari Teej Women's Committee

    Formed to increase public awareness, self-confidence, and respect for women, successfully organizing large-scale cultural events.

  5. 2006

    National Affiliation & Souvenir

    Successfully printed its first souvenir and became affiliated with the national-level organization, the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh.

  6. 2013

    Renamed to Bharatiya Gorkha Sewa Samaj

    A historic amendment changed the society's name to Bharatiya Gorkha Sewa Samaj, officially recognized by the Chit Fund Registrar.
